432 MHz Fixed Station - August 1997 Entries for this event were slightly down on last year, with no entrants at all for the multi-operator section. Despite this, activity was higher than last year, with a good lift into PA/ON adding to the interest for many participants, although no long haul continental DX was worked. Several stations reported weather related difficulties, with G8JXV's start being delayed almost a hour by a nearby thunderstorm. Scrutiny of the logs resulted in claimed scores going up as well as down, with Andy Cook G4PIQ emerging as the clear winner despite a 'part time' entry for only the last half of the contest, after some hasty repairs to the antenna system. Richard Baker, GD8EXI was runner-up and made the best DX of the contest, with the low power honours going to John Mills G0FUV. The winner in the overseas entry category was Frank Laanan PE1EWR and Stephen Sugden, 2E1AXO is the leading novice entrant. For those wishing to have a go in 1998, how about organising a team from your local radio club - there are certificates in the multi-operator section going begging this year!
