Low Power Field Day, 2007

This year, in some areas, the weather has not been conducive to portable operation, and the weekend coincided with the devastation that the floods brought to certain areas of the UK. I received a photo from Ray G4FON, showing where he was going to operate from (now covered with water) and a picture of his QTH, which also was flooded, and yet he still managed to get on the air with G8IB/A.

I expect there were plenty of remote sites for portable operation, which were water logged, and in a similar position.  The number of logs, quite naturally, were down from previous years.

Conditions were reported to be poorer than in previous years although 80 and 40 during the day will always be noisy, and with the small number of participants the QSO rate was down in proportion, allowing for that much appreciated and leisurely one-hour lunch break.

Congratulations to George G4EBK who wins  the 10W Fixed section, (Section A)  and the 1930 Committee Cup. The 10W Portable section (Section B) winner is G4FOX/P (Melton Mowbray A.R.S op- G3XYC) and he wins the Houston-Fergus Trophy. G4FOX/P also had an error free log and obtained more points than any one else in the contest.

In the 3W Fixed (Section C) , congratulations to Graham, G3VIP who came first, and G4ARI/P who won the 3W Portable Section (Section D) and wins the Southgate Trophy.

Stations using 5W were transferred to the 10W sections, and many thanks for Check logs from G3JKB, and G3KZR. I placed G3KZR in the 3W fixed section.

A big thank you to all who took part and supported Low Power Field day, especially under such conditions, and see you next year.

Dave G3RXP

Soapbox.

DR0X
Homebrew transmitter and aerial

DD1IM
Hard way outside GB; had local qrm & big problems to copy weaker stns. However: did meet mni friends on the bands. Tu all ops & RSGB 4 test

G0ADH
Very enjoyable but a little quiet after lunch.

G0MTN
I took my FT817, sat it on top of my FT1000, and spent a few hours playing in the contest until the batteries went flat. Nice and relaxed contest, steady activity in the morning, and signals actually pretty good considering! To be recommended - I'll be back next time hopefully.

G0VYR/P
Not too many stations heard in the afternoon. Cndx poorer than past years (from memory)

G3EAO/P
Cold and shattered  !

G3KZR
Limited time QRV. The first section was FB but the second was marked by an absence of signals

G3PDH
Just a few points in between gardening

G3RSD
Used SD worked fine as usual

G3VIP
Rig IC7000 3W, Dipoles @ 29 ft, homebrew logger. First session good. 19 stns in last 3 hours, what a grind, real test of staying power.

G3WKS/P
Missed an hour early in the contest but really enjoyed it. Steady contact rate throughout. Thanks for all the contacts. Point to the West Kent Amateur Radio Society

G4ARI/P
This is a really enjoyable contest.Good WX for /P - no rain, gentle breeze & not too hot  The break in the middle is really sociable - lets me  share a picnic with the family.  All /P daytime contests should include a break

G4AYM/P
Rig IC718 Antenna 132ft centre fed in inverted V centre at 11m

G4DDX/P
At last after many years I was able to go portable agn. Wx forcast was bad but turned out very nice.. I operated from my car just in case. Doublet at 23ft supported in middle and one end. Electrically quiet location with butterflies. Missed computer logging.

G4EBK
Conditions could have been better, very noisy here in Grimsby.  Afternoon a waste of time but stuck it out to the end. Maybe one session 0700 to 1300 would be better, then up the pub for a pie and a pint.

G4FOX/P
First section went well-second section hard work think everyone asleep after their Sunday lunch

G4OGB
Condx average at start, quick change after 1100 hrs

G5BK/P

First time in this contest. Started lively but dropped off in afternoon session. Bands quiet.  Was planning to do /p but put off by recent WX.  Using SD to do most of the keying

G5XV/P
Newbury RC First LP Field Day. K2 and 10watts battery power from a small field overlooking the flooded  Town of Thatcham, West Berkshire. 40m/80m Dipole.

G8IBA/A
Not even close to my best contest! The location I had planned to use for the /P operation was under flood water by Saturday evening, so Plan B was to operate from home which is actually /A for the callsign.

GM3BSQ/P
Rain and Wind at Start Clearing by Lunchtime Getting to grips with SD & Winkeyer Most enjoyable day albeit slow going

GM4GRC/P

M5MDX/P
Enjoyable event. Not alot of stations on. WX fine until and hour before the end!         We will be back next year.
