432 MHz UKAC Results 2005

2005 saw a pretty unlucky set of Tuesdays being chosen for these contests with only the July session yielding good DX. Normally 70cm can be relied upon to produce rather more than this and hopefully we'll get back to regular openings for the 2006 series. In spite of conditions, entries are around 20% up on 2005 which is great news.

This year, Bryn Llewellyn, G4DEZ, with high power and 4 yagis dominated the Single Operator Fixed Station section, but Paul Selwood, G3YDY, put in a great effort to claim second place with only 100W and a single small yagi. In a number of sessions Paul finished with a score very close to, or even ahead of Bryn's which is good going. It's also worth recognising the strong efforts at the back end of the year from North of the Border in the shape of Ray James, GM4CXM. 70cm is never easy from up there, but Ray made some very creditable scores.

Once again, the Open section was won decisively by the South Birmingham RS, G8OHM, followed by a great single operator portable effort from Steve Bunting, M0BPQ/P. The 25W, Single Antenna award for the fixed section goes to Dave Hook, M5ADF, and the Leading Intermediate Licence Holder & Leading Overseas Station awards go to the regulars, James Beatwell, 2E1GUA and Frank Laanen, PE1EWR. Bob Treacher, M3RCV takes the leading Foundation station award.
