50MHz Trophy Contest 2006

Conditions this year appeared even better than in 2005, with most entrants showing a substantial increase in QSO totals. It was a slower start on the Saturday again, however excellent Sporadic E conditions into Europe were the order of the day on Sunday and this was complemented with some double hop E's into North America and the Caribbean.

Entries were up on last year, and a slight decrease in Multi Operator entrants was more than offset by the increased Single Op entries. Congratulations to the Northern Lights, MD6V, who retain the Telford Trophy with their win in the Open section. Runners up were the Blacksheep Contest Group, G8T.

Congratulations also to Bryn, G4DEZ, who retains the Six Meter Cup for his victory in the Single Operator Fixed section. Runner up in the section was Steve, G0AEV. Finally, congratulations to Alun, G4WGE/P, for his win in the Single Operator Other section, Steve, G3ZVW, for his win in the 6 Hour Single Operator section and Roger G(W)4BVY/P for his win in the 6 Hour Other section.

John MacLean, MM0CCC

Some good conditions, for a change! No massive DX, but plenty on and several new countries for me.
G3JJZ
Pretty good most of the time. The long wire excelled itself!! I only failed to get a couple of stns called - and not one lost contact!!
G3YNN
Slightly late in starting, some very good sporadic E around. We couldn't find enough operators to manage the full 24hours but overall a very enjoyable short session, no cluster access here. We will be back for next year!
G3ZVW
Excellent conditions and activity. Sporadic-E for the entire 6 hrs I operated. Even worked some double hop E's!
G4DBW
Excellent Sporadic E condx. Lots of activity. Good fun.
G4DEZ
Very good openings, didn't bother with USA as takes too long to work them concentrated on Es to East
G4JZS
Good fun, nice opening, constant interruptions, will send family away next year.
G4XPE
Band wide open to Europe - good opportunity to work countries and squares for the RSGB awards.
G5B
Nice opening on Sunday after a long hard night and little sleep. Some reasonable Dx & much better multipliers and score than last year
G6CSY
Started off fairly quietly and then died overnight. Started quiet on Sunday Morning and then burst in to life. The appearance of a C31 dragged loads of non-contest stations out of the woodwork - lots of 59001 being sent!
G7PVZ/P
Gremlins caused chaos. Computer failed and I lost the log. Just as well I backed it up!! Cost me about an hour. Other than that a good event.
G7RIH
Excellent conditions best for some years great Dx
G8T
Not bad for a small station!
G8XQS
A novelty token entry from my lousy home QTH as wx at /P site was no good for my intended backpackers entry. Antenna is 2 ele yagi fixed beaming SSE just above the roof. Didn't work a single UK station but great fun working Es. Heard EA8 but didn't work him. Ain't 6 brill !!
GM2T
Poor start with little Sp E cndx but things improved into evening, and we continued to log Sp E contacts after midnight! Sunday was much better though no Scandinavian QSO's in the log, apart from a difficult tropo QSO with LA7XK.
GM4VVX
Nothing but a few MS pings on Saturday, though 50mhz chat room showing good Dx to VE from Southern UK. Only a little CW on the Sunday morning but very soon after contest start sporadic E came up from EA & CT to cover most of Europe later, though it was patchy. Had to take an hour or so off to rescue the xyl who had broken down in her car, but pleased with the end resulting total. Far better than last year. I expect everyone elses will be also be better. Hi Hi...
GW4BVY/P
Sporadic E threatened to get interesting but never quite delivered. Some good contacts but short lived openings and a lot of quite weak signals. I definitely chose the wrong 6 hours !!
GW8ZRE/P
Rain n cloud but warm. The DX was excellent very hard to find G stations. Main entry in backpackers.
M0BPQ
Some nice Es, especially on Sunday, but no dx only volume. Only a part time entry as I had other things to do.
M0BRA
Rather warm weather. Es patchy but quite good.
M0CGL
Enjoyable contest thanks for points
M0DDT
Thought it was good but wrong 2 lots of 3hrs! Enjoyable all the same.
M1A
Good Fun. Thanks to G0KPW OK2ZM OK2TSV OK2TSG.
M5ADF
Sat - Good. Sun - Lots of openings. Overall excellent - 18 countries
M5BFL
Great contest, all EU open MU0FAL Great runs but finally good es in the trophy contest to places that can be worked on tropo missed a fair part of the contest due to a visit to a restaurant for dinner VO1AU Very brief, spotty Es opening to Europe.
