144MHz SSB Cumulatives 1998
This contest continues to attract support, particularly from those who find the evening sessions fit in better with their domestic arrangements. There were one or two pleas from entrants for an increase in the number of sessions in the series, but only one advocate of points per km instead of per QSO. Devotees of the cumulative format will be happy to note that a new series of contests will replace the old 144 MHz CW cumulative events, with an experimental scoring system designed to favour intra-UK contacts.
Conditions for this year's event were nothing special, and the first session saw the highest overall scores of the three. The Wythall CG had a clear run in the multi-op section, although not without some EMC problems to solve as a result! David G4DHF mounted an 8 antenna challenge in the full power single-op section from his new home QTH, but his efforts were not sufficient to displace Andy G4PIQ from the leading position. John G4ZTR achieved a convincing win in the low power section but Jim MM0BQI found the going very hard from Edinburgh on a flat band. Congratulations to the winners and runners-up in each section.
Details scores from the individual sessions can be found here.
