4th 144MHz Backpackers Contest of 1998

Most stations during this session of the 144MHz Backpackers series of contests experienced excellent weather and good propagation. A French contest that was running at the same time as this one added extra interest (and multipliers!) to this contest.

One or two stations encountered a few problems; notably an antenna that always wanted to point east due to a loose mast coupling and a slight breeze and a mast that started to lean because of some rather inquisitive sheep that pulled out two guy ropes!

Several stations omitted to state their post code on their cover sheet. Please write the post code that you sent during the contest on your cover sheet. It is not funny having to deduce the post code of a station from other logs!

Congratulations to the winners of the multi-operator sections; Wirral & District Amateur Radio Club (GW4MGR/P) in the 10W section and Charlie and Sue Jordan (GW0PZO/P) in the 3W section. Congratulation to GW8ZRE/P who just managed to beat M0AFC/P for the top spot in the 10W single operator section. Finally, congratulations to Cockenzie and Port Seton Amateur Radio Club (GM7TKA/P) for winning the 3W single operator section. All section winners and runners-up will receive certificates.
