5^th 144MHz Backpackers contest of 1998

Poor weather was forecast for this event but thankfully over most of the country, calm conditions prevailed. Conditions on 144MHz were described by one entrant as 'hot!' with excellent continental DX piling into most locations. The 'best DX' column in the results pays testimony to this with impressive distances being worked by the majority of the entrants.

Thank you to all of the station that supplied their log on electronically. It really does help speed up adjudication. Please check your cover sheets for accuracy before you submit your entry. Two stations managed to misquote their locators on their coversheets, which made adjudication fun until the mistakes were spotted!

Congratulations to Wirral and District Amateur Radio Club (GW4MGR/P) for winning the 10 watt multi-operator section and to GW5NF/P for winning the 3 watt multi-operator section. In the single operator section, top honours go to M0AFC/P in the 10 watt section and GW7LQD/P in the 3 watt section. All section winners and runners-up will receive certificates.
