1st 50MHz Backpackers Contest of 1998
Entries for this contest have declined slightly this year. However, the entrants all seemed to enjoy the contest - especially as many of them took advantage of the sporadic E propagation to work Croatia, Moldovia, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland etc!
Generally the standard of logging was good with few errors being made. Thank you to all of the stations who provided their logs on disk - this really does help to speed up the adjudication process. Any log that was not received 'on disk' was entered into one of the standard logging programs so that the entire contest could be 100% cross-checked.
One point about the special rules for the Backpacker series of contests. If your rig can produce more power than is allowed in your section, you MUST declare how you have reduced and checked the rig's power output even if you think it is obvious how you have done so.
Congratulations to the Malvern Hills RAC (G0RMX/P) for winning the 10W multi-operator section, to the West Kent ARS (G1WKS/P) for winning the 3W multi-operator section, to M0AFC/P for winning the 10W single operator section and finally to 2E0ARB/P for winning the 3W single operator section. All of the section winners and runners-up will receive certificates.
