The mixture of good weather and the chance to use the new regional call signs all helped to start the 144MHz Backpacker season on a high note. Thirty-five stations put in an entry. As usual the standard of logging was high, although a few stations lost a lot of points for mistakes such incorrectly logging stations as /P when they were not and vice versa.
More seriously, a number of stations did not state their postcode on their coversheet. This may seem like a minor oversight but this contest used postcodes as multipliers. It is not funny having to deduce a station's postcode from other station's logs! Please ensure that all relevant information is included with your entry. Thank you to all of the entrants who provided their logs on disk or via email.
The usual number of minor disasters occurred to stations. One found that the battery they have taken to site went flat so they had to use battery in the car. Unfortunately this meant they had to operate standing up with the radio on the car bonnet. Then to cap it all they got sprayed with pesticide courtesy of the local farmer. Another group managed to fry their rig by applying power to it the wrong way around. Several stations remarked on the confusion caused to some logging programs by the new regional call signs
