432MHz Low Power Results 1999

This years event saw a large increase in entries and variable band conditions dependent on where you were sited in the country. The Multi-Op section winners GD0EMG reported working into PA but having to beam towards southern G to achieve this along a weather front. Direct signals were either non existent or considerably weaker. This is something to watch for especially at UHF frequencies, where propagation is far from straightforward. The usual more successful east coast sited stations were disadvantaged by the front and struggled to make any impact. Once again I am saddened to report a lack of novice activity and only one entry, this may be explained by the fact that some have already moved over to the 144Mhz band. Generally entrants are happy with the format which is now well established on the contests calendar. Congratulations go to all section winners and runners-up, with extra awards going to PE1EWR for a commendable entry as always and to 2U0ARE for supporting the novice community.
