| 23/13 cm Trophy Contest Results 1998 | ||||||||||||||||
| The start of his year's event did not herald the return of the fine propagation which accompanied | ||||||||||||||||
| last year's contest. That coupled with a widespread outbreak of radio gremlins and poor weather | ||||||||||||||||
| conditions resulted in a slight decrease in entries this time round. | ||||||||||||||||
| Several entrants were afflicted by equipment problems, including the Northern Lights who | ||||||||||||||||
| lost 13 cm until just before the end of the contest. Fortunately for them, a relocation from Wales | ||||||||||||||||
| to Suffolk this year brought them the top 23 cm multi-operator honours and the Trophy, with last | ||||||||||||||||
| year's winners the Parallel Lines Group, relegated to second this time. John G3XDY exerted his | ||||||||||||||||
| customary influence to dominate the single operator section on 23 cm, with John G4ZTR as runner-up. | ||||||||||||||||
| On 13 cm the Five Bells CG take the top multi-operator position, aided by a number of PA/ON | ||||||||||||||||
| QSOs which took them to the highest points/QSO average. This and the Lights' equipment problems | ||||||||||||||||
| leaves the VHF Championship result very finely balanced this year! Andrew Hutley G6SPS/P | ||||||||||||||||
| wins the single operator section, and as the highest overall scorer, the 13 cm. Trophy. This is | ||||||||||||||||
| a considerable achievement for a single operator, and a deserved reward for his stalwart | ||||||||||||||||
| support of this contest in recent years. | ||||||||||||||||
