432MHz cumulatives 1998
Although most stations were disappointed with the
general level of activity there was good Dx to be found in each of the five
sessions to both Germany and Holland. Frank Laanen, PE1EWR, who was the sole
overseas entrant, had a commendable normalised score and his log together with
the checklog from PA3FTX helped with the adjudication process.
Some stations
expressed a wish for a return to the 20.30hr start for future 70cm cumulative
contests and one suggested a shorter duration contest.
Experienced contester
John Quarmby, G3XDY, decided to use just 25W in the cumulatives and despite
finding it hard work in the conditions he still came second in the single
operator section and gained another certificate as leading 25W / single antenna
station.
David Millard, G8NEY, came first in four out of the five sessions
was the overall winner of the single operator section.
The All Other Section
was hotly contested by M1CRO/P and G8OHM.
M1CRO/P triumphed by winning 3 sessions and the South Birmingham Radio
Society who had laid claim to this section over the last few years had to be
content with second place. The section was particularly close and I look forward
to a possible return match next year hopefully with more entrants including some
of the regulars who were conspicuous by their absence.
