November 1998 144 MHz CW Contest Results
This year’s entry is a couple short of last year, although as usual there was much excellent DX to be wored by those patient enough to drag it out of the QSB, particularly on the Saturday. This DX was not balanced by the level of UK activity which was generally described as dreadful - lets have a few more of us on this year - even just for a few hours - and I admit that I’m just as guilty as the rest of you here!
No-one found conditions all that special, although a moderate aurora did take place on the Saturday evening / Sunday morning allowing some of the bigger stations in Europe to make some very good QSOs. G3FIJ was the only one of our 24 hour entrants to be alert enough to catch this opening however, working just GM4ILS. No doubt, some of the bigger stations who entered the 6 hour section will be kicking themselves at a missed opportunity!
Congratulations to all the section winners, but in particular John Lemay, G4ZTR and David Johnson, G4DHF for their commanding leads. The 25W single antenna certificates go to Frank Howe, G3FIJ, and Lee Volante, G0MTN who was operating G1WAC stuck on low power after having the shack flooded out!
Andy Cook, G4PIQ.
